Malaysia’s first batch of locally manufactured steel body VDP PDC drill bits launched

       OMNI Oil Technologies (M) Sdn. Bhd. (OMNI), a Malaysian developer and manufacturer of drilling, completion and wellhead components, announced the launch of Malaysia’s first locally manufactured steel body drill bit, the VDP PDC.
       The product received an award from Petronas for its contribution to the technological advancement of oil production equipment in Malaysia.
       The VDP PDC steel body drill bit was developed under the Supplier Development Program (VDP) for bow springs and solid centralizers, demonstrating OMNI’s experience and commitment to innovation in the Malaysian oil industry.
       At the launch, OMNI also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Schlumberger (SLB), a global leader in energy innovation.
       The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Nik Mustafa Fathil Nik Mahmud, Managing Director of OMNI and Mr. Amin Said, Marketing Manager of SLB East Asia GeoUnit, and also attended by Datuk Ir. Bacho Pilong, Senior Vice President of Petronas Management, Mr. Meng Keong Lee, Managing Director of SLB East Asia GeoUnit and key representatives of both companies.
       The collaboration between OMNI and SLB began in 2013 and initially involved the supply of Malaysian-made components to local and global markets.
       Mr Lee Ming Keong, Managing Director of SLB East Asia GeoUnit, agrees, noting that Malaysian products have achieved great success around the world. “Together with OMNI, we have supplied high-quality products to 43 countries, demonstrating Malaysia’s engineering prowess. This collaboration sets high standards for quality and innovation, and I am confident that it will lead to further breakthroughs.”
