IADC: 517 – TCI journal sealed bearing bit with gauge protection for soft to medium soft formations with low compressive strength .

Ground Description:
Medium hard and abrasive rocks such as sandstones with streaks of quartz, hard limestone or chert, hematite ores, hard, well-compacted abrasive rock such as: sandstones with quartz binder, dolomites, quartzite shales, magma and metamorphic coarse grained rocks.

According to cutting material,tirocne bit can be divided into TCI bit and Steel Tooth Bit .API TCI tricone bit. IADC517 17 1/2 ” (444.5mm) have type of Rubber /Elastomer sealed bearing and Metal sealed bearing. We suggest that we had better choose metal face sealed bearing bits for deep rock wells with hard formations.For very deep well drilling, we recommend Metal-face sealed bearing tricone bits in drilling depth exceeds 1000 meters, For hard rock and long distance trenchless pilot hole drilling that length exceeds 300 meters we also recommend metal-face sealed bearing tricone bits.For water well drilling, shallow well drilling or shorter distance trenchless pilot hole drilling projects, elastomer(rubber) sealed bearing tricone bits has better cost performance.
Rocks hardness could be soft , medium and hard or very hard, hardness of one type of rocks may be also a little different, for example, limestone, sandstone, shale has soft limestone, medium limestone and hard limestone, medium sandstone and hard sandstone , etc.
Choose the proper rocks drilling bits is very important before starting project. Mostly IADC517 is for drilling soft rocks and IADC637 is for drilling hardest.
